Installing the Microsoft® .Net Framework
ResultsManager v2.6 onwards currently requires the Microsoft .Net Framework
Version 1.1 SP1 in order to support the ResultsMerlin Wizard.
Windows XP commonly uses .Net 1.1, and Windows Vista comes with .Net
2.
The Microsoft .Net Framework is not distributed with the ResultsMerlin
installer, as this would increase the download size by around 40 MB,
and many users will already have the .Net Framework installed on their
systems if they are using any other software that requires it.
If the installation of ResultsMerlin tells you that you need .Net Framework
v1.1, then you should do the following:
- Download and install Microsoft's .Net Framework 1.1 redistributable
package (file dotnetfx.exe).
- Download and install Microsoft's Service Pack
1 for .Net 1.1 (file NDP1.1sp1-KB867460-X86.exe) This is essential
if you are using Windows Vista.
- Reinstall ResultsManager, and this time the installation of the
ResultsMerlin Wizard will complete. It is safe to reinstall ResultsManager
over the top of a previous installation, but be careful not to overwrite
any files that you have modified and wish to keep. ResultsManager
option settings will be retained.
Notes:
- .Net Framework 1.1 can be installed alongside other versions of
.Net Framework and will coexist with them.
- On Windows Vista, you will be prompted to reboot your system during
the installation of the .Net framework. However, Microsoft's own utilities
are also blocked by Windows Defender, so you may get a message that
a startup program is blocked when you restart your system. You can
click on the "blocked programs" icon in the notification
area and permit the update utility program to run, so that it can
complete installation of the .Net framework.
- If you prefer to download from the Microsoft site direct, search
for ".Net 1.1" and ensure that you download and install
both the redistributable installer and Service Pack 1 for .Net
Framework 1.1.
